CENTRAL FORENSICS SCIENCE LABORATORY

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is a wing of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, which fulfills the forensic requirements in the country. There are seven central forensic laboratories in India, at Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Guwahati, Bhopal and Pune. CFSL Hyderabad is a centre of excellence in chemical sciences, CFSL Kolkata (the oldest laboratory in India) in biological sciences and CFSL Chandigarh in physical sciences. The CFSL New Delhi comes under the Central Bureau of Investigation, Delhi, whereas the other laboratories are under the control of the Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS) of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The laboratory in New Delhi is under the control of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and investigates cases on its behalf. Dr. Nilendu Bikash Bardhan is currently Director of CFSL (CBI) New Delhi. Mr. Brijendra Badonia is the Director of CFSL Kolkata, Sh KM Varshney is Director of CFSL Hyderabad and Dr. S.K. CENTRAL FORENSICS SCIENCE LABORATORY, HYDERABAD

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad or popularly known as CFSL, Hyderabad, was established in the Year 1967 and is one of the six Central Forensic Science Laboratories in India. CFSL is situated at Ramanthapur, which is about 9 kms from the heart of the Hyderabad City. The Laboratory is presently working under the administrative control of Directorate of Forensic Science Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi. The Laboratory today is one of the most comprehensive Laboratories in the country with 7 fully equipped Forensic Divisions namely Ballistics, Biology, Chemistry, Documents, Explosives, Physics and Toxicology along with two specilalised units for Computer Forensics and DNA profiling. The first Forensic Science Laboratory in India came into existence at Calcutta for the State of West Bengal on 1st July 1952.It was a brain-child of the great visionary Dr B. C. Roy, the former Chief Minister of West Bengal. The laboratory started functioning under the able guidance of Dr. N. K. Sen as Director, State Forensic Science Laboratory. Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh is a leading laboratory which deals in Forensic Testing to support the various government and nongovernment organizations by providing high-quality forensic testing. CFSL Bhopal is committed to provide dependable Forensic Science Service of International Standards to Justice Delivery System by doing continuous research and developmental efforts. This will help in providing un-delayed justice to the common man in the North Eastern states through the aids of science. We are also committed for introducing latest scientific techniques in the investigation of crime and for the administration of justice by modernising/upgrading CFSL in respect to human resource development as well as latest scientific technology. Presently, the Laboratory is located at Barkhera Bonder, P.O. Bairagarh Kalan, Bhopal - 462030 comprising of six divisions namely Biology/Serology, Questioned Document and Photography, Chemistry/Narcotics, Ballistics, Computer Forensic and Speaker Identification and Audio-Video Tape Authentication. CENTRAL FORENSICS SCIENCE LABORATORY, GUWAHATI

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) established three new Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) in the year 2011 at Guwahati, Bhopal and Pune under the Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS), New Delhi. The scientists of CFSLs examine exhibits forwarded by the investigating agencies and render examination repot/opinion and substantiate in the Court of Law through court testimony. The laboratories also undertake R&D work in the grey areas of Forensic Science for the development of forensic science in the country. Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of new building at Kamrup (near Guwahati) on November 29, 2014, and the constructed building was inaugurated by him on March 06, 2019. CFSL, Kamrup has the aim to propagate and carry out credible forensic science practices in the country, especially in the North-Eastern region. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory Pune, under the administrative control of the Directorate of Forensic Science Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. Of India, New Delhi is established under XIIth Five Year Plan Scheme of Directorate of Forensic Science Services entitled ‘Establishment of new CFSL’s, Expansion and Modernization of existing CFSL’s of DFSS. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Pune is established for the forensic examination of various crime exhibits by using conventional and sophisticated instrumental methods. The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved setting up of CFSL at Pune and it has been published in the Gazette of India, August 10, 2013. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory, (CBI) New Delhi was established in the Year 1968 as a scientific department to provide scientific support and services to the investigation of crime. The Laboratory is located at Block No.4, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003. Besides this, the CFSL has Scientific Aids Unit located at CBI Branch in Chennai. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory, CBI, New Delhi today is one of the most comprehensive Laboratories in the country with 10 fully equipped Divisions namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Serology, Ballistics, Documents, Finger Prints, Forensic Psychology, Photo, Computer Forensic Science & Scientific Aids divisions with addition of state-of-the-art laboratories for Computer Forensics and DNA profiling.
